Ask any of my friends … If there’s one thing Momma is, that’s creative.

So, credit where credit is due, I did *not* think of this garnish, it was all Momma. I mean really, tops ‘n middles? Holy cuteness! And you know how I love cute. And playful. And fun.

So yes, please … I was all over this idea! I love how she adds to my recipes. <3

Nutty Strawberry Apple Pie Recipe

For crust:

  • 1/4 cup raw cashews
  • 1/4 cup pecans
  • 1/2 cup hazelnut meal
  • 1/2 cup dates, pitted and halved
  • 2 tbsp raw honey, to taste
  • 1/4 tsp salt, to taste

For filling:

  • 3 apples (we used 2 gala, 1 granny smith), diced (set aside stemmed top and center “star” slice for garnish)
  • half pint strawberries (about 18 small), chopped
  • 1 1/2 tsp + 1 1/2 tsp coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp pecan butter
  • pinch salt
  • squeeze lemon

To make crust:

Combine ingredients in food processor. Set aside about a tablespoon of crust for topping.

Press into two 6″ ceramic pie dishes (or distribute evenly between 4 – 6 ramekins.) Set aside.

To make filling:

In small frying pan, heat apples with coconut oil and pecan butter til softened. Pour over crust.

In separate frying pan, heat strawberries with coconut oil, salt and lemon til just warm. Pour over apples on crust.

Sprinkle with crust topping.

Garnish with apple stem top and center “star” slice.

Serve warm and enjoy!
