Guys, guys, look what I discovered!
If you freeze fresh cherries with the stems on, when they begin to defrost you get this pretty, frosty effect. People will ask how you did it and it’s soooo easy!
So … frosty cherries aside, there are two ways to make this … dark chocolate or milk chocolate. One ingredient makes the difference, cacao powder.
Add it and you’ve got a dark chocolate smoothie.
Leave it out and you’ve got a milk chocolate smoothie.
Hooray!
. . . . . . . . .
Chocolate Covered Cherry Smoothie Bowl
- 1 cup sweet dark cherries, pitted and frozen
- 1/2 cup coconut water or sweet cherry juice concentrate
- 2 – 3 tbsp (1 scoop) Sunwarrior Classic Plus vanilla protein powder
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 tsp maca powder
- 1 tsp cacao powder, optional*
- banana, sliced & frozen
- Optional toppings: Cacao sweet nibs, fresh cherries (pre-frozen for a frosty look)
Blend 1 cup pitted, frozen cherries with liquid til smooth then add powders and pulse til combined. Add frozen bananas and blend til smooth. Add toppings and enjoy!
* If you dig dark chocolate, a bit of cacao powder adds that slightly bitter, dark chocolate twang. If you’re a milk chocolate fan, skip the cacao.
